Upohar 2.0 was an initiative taken by the Rotaract Club of Sonargaon Kolkata to bring a tummy full of smile for the under privileges.

We all know what pandemic did to us, many lost their jobs, many lost their only earning member of the house, many of them made hunger their friend and while many of them just rested in peace. Its quite heart breaking to see those families on the street who can’t even afford a proper meal for a day. With the rise in price and with no proper jobs its quite difficult for the unprivileged to get a proper meal to keep them going, to have the strength to fight with the deadly virus.

So, we the Rotaract Club of Sonargaon Kolkata arranged an event named ‘Upohar 2.0’ which means gift. A small initiative to provide ration and vegetables to those unprivileged, just to keep them going and a small gesture to show that we the privileges, we are with them.

It was our first offline event after the lockdown but still there were restrictions and we had to follow certain protocols in order to execute the event properly, following the rules and maintaining everyone’s safety.

To make the ration kits, we divided ourselves in groups two days prior to the event, to ease the work for the final day. Our target was to donate rations to 100 people but with the help of all our members and the donation from the rotary, we successfully ended up donating to 125 people. Each of the packets had 1kg of rice, 300gms of dal and vegetables in it.

The day and the event ended well, as they smiled while taking the ‘Upohar’ from us made our day more special. Helping them during this worst time is what this event was all about.

At the very beginning of the Rota year 2021-2022, Rotaract Club of Sonargaon Kolkata organized an online event, ‘ROTA d’OR’. An event hosted specially for the members of the club to encourage and appreciate their hard work and efforts for the previous Rota year 2020-2021 and also to welcome the new comers.
‘ROTA d’OR’ was a cultural program and an award ceremony. As it was totally an online event, we couldn’t hand over the awards to the winners but each one of us gave their best to make the other feel welcomed and appreciated. The performances by our talented members in the cultural program were definitely overwhelming and entertaining.
The evening began with an introductory speech by our joint treasurer who is also the Zonal Coordinator of Zone 3 of 3291 Rtr. Baishali Guha, an opening dance by our treasurer Rtr. Pubali Guha followed by an enriching and motivating speech by our respected and loving president Rtr. Rtn. Imanjit Dutta. There were several other graceful dances, soothing instrumentals, comedy skits and beautiful songs followed in the later evening along with the award ceremony.
There were 10 award categories, each of the award was given a funny name just to make it casual and entertaining. The nominees for each of the category was selected by our board members. The other members helped us to choose the deserving one by voting unbiasedly.
4th of July was really a memorable day for all the members of the Rotaract Club of Sonargaon Kolkata. A day where we were honored and appreciated by our own fellow team mates and a day where we got to know our true potential.
